Part One: Repeal

The first thing a new Democratic legislature will want to do is to repeal a large number of laws that were improvidently passed by the Republican supermajority and cynically signed by DeSantis. These would include, but not be limited to, the following 2023 bills:

HB1 – private/homeschool scholarships
HB133 – new fees on renters
HB225 – (Christian) prayer before public school events
HB543 – permitless concealed carry
HB837 – “tort reform” and corporate shielding
HB1069 – “Don’t Say ‘Gay’. Don’t Even Say ‘They’”
HB1267* – loosened regulations on predatory lending
HB1417 – loosened regulation on predatory landlords
HB1438 – the drag ban
HB1521 – the “bathroom ban”
HB1543** – allowing 18-year-olds to purchase semi-automatic rifles
HJR31 – partisan school board elections
HJR129** – that essentially kills direct democracy in Florida
SB170 – further restriction on local rule
SB214 – preventing the tracking of firearm sales
SB254 – the prohibitions and restrictions on transgender health care; the statewide trans registry
SB256 – the union-busting bill
SB266 – the so-called “MAGA Higher education” law
SB300 – the ban on abortion
SB450 – loosening requirements for the death penalty
SB1580 – permitting health care discrimination against the LGBT community
SB1718 – immigration
SB7050 – election regulation

* so bad, even DeSantis refused to sign it!
** died in the state Senate without action

It is not just a few votes here and there. It is a fundamental difference of opinion on the state’s future direction.

Anybody who likes how things are going and approves of these bills should vote Republican. Most people need to be made aware of what the legislature and DeSantis did, in a short 60 days, to harm current state residents and jeopardize our future.

It is time the word got out.
