Finally, it is the charge of the government to prepare our state for the future. Both major parties — Republicans and Democrats both — have not adhered to this requirement. Although the Republicans indeed shoulder the lion’s share of the blame since they have been in charge for so long here.

It will be up to a new Democratic majority to change this. Areas for focus should include:

1. Experimenting with enhancements to the democratic process, to ensure that all people feel a part of the solution
2. Setting a stretch goal for the optimal work/home/wage balance as we approach mid-century
3. Ensuring that every Floridian has peace of mind with respect to their well being
4. Helping all of our youth to achieve their dreams
5. Taking bold action and making strategic investments with respect to climate change
6. Demonstrating in word and deed that everyone is welcome in Florida
